Goa Selarong

Goa Selarong is a witness to the history of the struggle of Prince Diponegoro and his army were used as the headquarters of the guerrilla against Dutch colonialism. From this cave area Diponegoro devise tactics and discussing with his followers in an attempt to attack the Dutch. During headquartered in Goa Selarong, the army of Prince Diponegoro has been attacked three times by the Netherlands, which on July 25, October 3, and October 4, 1825. The battle that took place between Prince Diponegoro's Army and the Netherlands was known as the Java War that lasted for five years , ie in the year 1825-1830.

Pangeran Diponegoro (1785 - 1855) is the eldest son of Sultan Hamengkubowono III (1769-1814). Pangeran Diponegoro no ambition to become king and prefer to live close to the people and live in Tegal Rejo village. Because besieged the Netherlands on July 20, 1825 in Tegal Rejo village, the followers of Prince Diponegoro together then withdrew to the Goa Selarong.


LOCATION

Selarong cave is located in the hamlet of Flower Putihan, Guwosari Village District of Displays, Bantul, about 14 km south of Yogyakarta. To get there, you should be based on the intersection Dongkelan (ring road south (ring road south) - jl Bantul). Choose the way to the south to about 2 km you will find the tourist village gate Kasongan. Come to the west of the pass gates up to 3-4 km until the intersection Guwosari / Display.
